How beneficial is taekwondo in losing weight?
I started taking taekwondo. Even as a beginner I get quite a work out! I sweat like crazy and do a lot of stretches and basic self defense moves. And yes, it’s in a professional class where I have a one-on-one instructor. I already feel the benefits, but was wondering how well this will aid me in losing weight/inches in the next few weeks were I to do this 3-5 days a week.
Just to add: I have a fantastic diet. That’s not an issue for me.

Take it from me, Tae Kwon Do will do wonders for you. I’ve been taking it for about 10 years now and it has been a large credit to my health.
As for losing weight in a few weeks, I’m a bit unsure. The amount of days that you work out seem to be good because it allows for days of rest. However, the best weight loss comes from cardiovascular exercise. Kicking drills and sparring will be the closest thing to cardio exercise that I can relate to. The other exercises that we do are muscular strength/endurance exercises that will give you a good workout but aren’t really the best in losing weight.
If you want to lose weight, then keep up Tae Kwon Do and also eat a healthy, well-balanced diet complete with fruits, vegetables, grains, and meat. This healthy diet and exercise will definitely help you lose weight. At 16 years old, I can definitely tell you that if you stay with it, Tae Kwon Do will be one of the best exercises and provide excellent experiences for your life. My friends at school ask me if I go to the gym and they usually don’t believe me that it was all from Tae Kwon Do. I don’t mean to sound narcisistic, but it’s just that Tae Kwon Do really works. Hope this helps and good luck!
Well to tell you the truth, I took Taekwondo classes for about 3 years, and I didn’t seem to lose weight. Instead, my muscles were just stronger and healthier, and I was actually able to do the splits!
But since that was years ago, I’ve lost all my abilities. Now I’m just like a flat tire at home, weak. Thumbs up for Taekwondo
You’ll start noticing a difference after 4 weeks or so.
