Is it safe and/or effective to take fiber supplements to help boost weight loss?
I have a weigh in on Tuesday for Weight Watchers and my weight went up by about 2 pounds last week after an unhealthy binge. I want to try to get my weight down as much as possible. I’ve been eating an extra healthy diet, but I’m considering taking fiber supplements to help get my weight down a little more.
I will not take more than the recommended dosage for the day and this will be in addition to my healthy diet and exercise. I want to possibly use the extra fiber as a detox/cleanse (to help "flush out" excess "crap".)
Is this safe or even effective?

Taking fiber supplements is alright if you take the as directed, but they should not be used to cheat on a weigh-in. Taking supplements to lower weight right before a weigh-in is not wise. If you try to take laxatives to get rid of extra weight before a weigh-in it could be a sign of an eating disorder.
Take fiber supplements if you need them to get enough fiber in your diet, but don’t take them for any other reason. Get your fiber through fruits and veggies and get more exercise.
I really doubt fiber could help you shed pounds immediately , but maybe it could help you increase calories burnt. Fibers are processed as if they were a normal food; thus, the body wastes energy on that. However, the energy is not given back because the fiber cannot be digested so in theory you could lose weight by eating more fiber.

A diet high in fiber is great. A fiber supplement can be used. Use as directed so you don’t actually have issues as diarrhea or bloating. But cheating on your diet and cheating to get back to a weight will not help you in the long run. Better to be honest. They can talk to you about triggers. I am sure that other people there are in the same boat. Tell them what happened and listen to the advice of those who got through ‘unhealhty binge urges’
Eating right and staying fit are a must when trying to lose weight. But detoxifying your body every once in a while will also give dramatic results. I use a detox system I found on the internet about once a month. In addition to promoting weight loss, I just feel more alive by detoxing my body. Hope this helped
