What is the right number of calories for me?

Like most males my age, I feel I need to gain muscle and work to have more visible abs (it’s not like I show them to anyone, I just like being thin). I already have a fairly balanced workout routing consisting of strength training and cardio, but I am not sure as to how many calories I will need to see a maximized effect. The workouts are split up into four sets, and total a span of about two hours daily. Here’s some background information. I was formerly on a weight loss diet, eating 1800 calories a day. Hence reaching my desired body fat percentage and picking up strength training, I have slowly began consuming more calories without losing the visibility of my abs. Right now I take in 2300 and am wondering how far I might be able to go. I’m 17, 5’9, 147 lbs. Any past experiences would help me greatly, any results other’s may have seen would be very useful. I would rather read about first-hand experiences than look it up on an online calculator. I would appreciate some help (except for those darn "copy and paste" answers telling me to visit some weight loss website)!

Okay so i worked out all summer to get more cut. I have lost weight. Right now I weigh 137. I’m 5’6. My arms are pretty cut, my chest and shoulders are muscular. My stomach is really flat but no abs yet. At what body fat percentage does your abs start appearing?

I’m can’t tell you what my body fat percentage is yet but I’m gonna go buy a body fat scale so that I’ll be able to keep track.

Weightlifting weight loss question?

I am 25 years old, I am 6’1 and weigh about 185 pounds. i used one of those electric body fat calculators and it said my body fat is 15.5%.
I weight lift 3 times a week and run on the days that i don’t lift
Basically on the days that i weight train: I run for 10 mins then hit the weights for an hour then run for another 15-20 mins after i am done lifting. On the days that i don’t weight train i try to run for 40-60 mins. i try to do 100 situps every day. I started this routine about 3 weeks ago. I drink a protein shake before and after my workouts, and try to eat chicken and some vegetables after my weightlifting, i have cut out sodas, chips and other junk food entirely from my diet. I have some belly fat that i like to get rid of, the only difference I’ve seen was with my arms, i have gotten stronger but i do not see any difference with my belly.
My questions;
1. What should my body fat percentage be to see my abs?
2. I would like to loose this belly in 6 weeks is that doable?
3. Should i cut out the protein shakes from my diet?

Army body fat calculator…?

Hi all, I have a question about calculating my body fat. I’ve been working out and working on my diet for a few months now trying to meet my weight requirement to enlist in the Army, but the last couple months I’ve plateaued on my weight loss. I’m still losing inches, I think I’m just gaining enough muscle to keep from actually losing pounds on the scale. I still have a ways to go to meet the weight requirements but it occured to me in a month or two I may meet the body fat requirments if I continue to gain muscle at the rate I currently am. Does anyone know a site online or formula I can use to figure my body fat percentage based on the army standard? The closets recruiter is 45 min away and I don’t want to drive there just for them to tape me and say I don’t meet the requirement when I already know that. I’d like to be able to track it at home so when I can go to the recruiter I can go when I’m eligible to join. Any suggestions? I’ve tried several online calculators and have gotten % from 32.8% to 42% and I have a feeling it’s probably closer to the middle…

I know BMI is not the only indicator of ones health. Body fat percentage is also very important. Is there a way one can find out how much body fat percentage someone has? Do we have to go to a professional?

I am still the same weight but it suddenly moved that much in 2 days, i am trying to keep lifting weights to prevent muscle loss in weightloss altogether but it hasn’t been going well! i keep on not losing body fat percentage while i lift weights and eat protein while slowly lose weight! It keeps on staying the same mostly! i moved from 28 percent at 70 kilos and am now 66.6 and 26 percent, is that too little?

Ok, so the BMI says I am a 26.5, which is a little bit over weight. When I do the formula for body fat percentage, it says I have an 18.71. 18-25 are in the average range, but it doesnt make sense that I am at the LOW end for being slightly overweight.

Thanks!

How do I get rid of love handles for summer?

I’m 14, 6’1" and weigh 170 pounds. My body fat percentage is 8.5% although the test is accurate within 2% so i could be either 6.5% or 10.5% ( I’m thinking 10.5, lol) I’m fairly toned and have a 4 pack (just the bottom two not too prominent) but even at this body fat % I still have huge love handles….HELP ME PLEASE!

I am 27 years old, weigh 122lbs and I am 5’2.5. I rollerblade 3.5 miles 5 days a week and I come home and do 200 crunches. I don’t seem to be losing any weight and my legs and butt are bigger. I did an online body fat percentage calculator and it shows me in the fitness category. I don’t know what that means but it is kinda frustrating. I have been doing this workout constantly for almost 2 months. Can anyone give me some tips??

Thanks!

I just bought a scale that measures your weight,BMI and body fat percentage. I work out about 4-5 times a week. I can fit into clothes that i couldn’t before. So how is it my body fat percentage is higher on this scale. I bought this scale to measure that because i didn’t want to spend to have it done at the gym.HELP!!!! I only think there’s a difference if i my body fat percentage is lower.

How are these two things different, and what’s considered a healthy range for both?

I took a body fat percentage test, got only 16.2%, but is that the same as my BMI?
