What else can I do to build muscle, while burning fat?

I go to the gym 4x a week and do some lifting, mainly my arms, chest, back, and abs. I do a little with my legs sometimes but not really that much. I want to concentrate on these areas with the muscle building, but i have some stubborn fat around my stomach that really doesn’t want to go away…
What can I do to help build muscle while burning away some of that fat? Like what foods should i eat?, etc?

Jim,
Going to the gym is great but in order to build muscle and burn fat, you need to really concentrate on three area.
1. You need a solid workout plan that emphasizes your large muscle groups. Groups like the muscles of the legs and hips and chest and back.
2. You need to give your body the proper nutrition that it needs to build your muscle back stronger and give your the nutrition you need. Try to eat a balanced diet that is low on fat. And be sure to hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water.
3. You need plenty of rest. Muscle repairs and grows during rest. And added muscle mass helps you burn fat away faster. Be sure to give your muscles enough time to rest and repair.
Hope that helps, Chip
Going to the gym is good and all that, but what your doing is only working things you want to work, if you run, swim, go for hikes and all those things, you will loss weight, and loss your beer belly. I just got back from MCRD (marines boot camp). I found I did what you did and it did nothing, yes working out for hours is good and all but its not all that good to work only one part of your body. Running swimming, works all your mussles
Measure your body fat percentage to see whether you’re actually loosing fat. I bought some electronic scales which, after telling it my age, sex, height etc calculates my BMI and bodyfat percentage for me. Then if you arent loosing fat, do more cardio.
working only certain parts of your body will cause muscle imbalance, + skinny legs or slim legs and a hench upper body does not look good
I would work all muscle parts changing the intensity of my workouts also up my cardio as far as diet goes i stay away from fried and starchy foods and try to eat every 3 hrs.
